Another Day in Paradise

Well the weather is definitely changing and getting cooler, had frost the last couple of mornings it's already been 26, the animals are working extra hard gathering food, the does are coming in with their fawn for the salt and minerals. The maples are turning along with a few other trees, fall is in the air, Kaia and Nashaba are more frisky but they have been staying closer to the house since the hunters have been on the mountains. Nashaba's pace definitely has some pep now that was missing when it was warmer. This has been a strange year we only had 5' of snow this year it melted quickly and we wee driving in and out most of the way as early as Feb when usually it's after Memorial day before that happens. The water levels have been down for the last 2 months but the dam continues to work as it has for over 80 years, but with the cooler air means the leaves will be falling and that means the screens will be getting clogged so I'll have to check it more and keep them clear, but then that is part of what I'm here for.IWith the weather getting like this then the snow won't be far behind I hope anyway. Enjoy

Just a few views of paradise Posted by Picasa

Gizmo thinking about hunting Posted by Picasa

Paradise is different for Everyone

You know I believe paradise is different for everyone, Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder, that is for sure, just look around. It's those differences that make the world what it is along with all of the people in it. To me being outdoors in the mountains surrounded by natural beauty, there is nothin better. Getting to watch the clouds moving in from the west and splitting and going around giving me blue skies, listening to the river and creeks babbling, listening to the powerplant hum in the background, seeing the critters scurrying around gathering up their winter food stock. Watching Kaia and Nashaba playing in the yard and knowing they are just waiting for me to come out and head anywhere the are ready to go and see what is happening in our world, and yes we make it what it is daily. With our thoughts and intentions we design the world we live in, how we choose to look at things makes it so. Looking for joy and beauty in everything brings peace and contentment, learning not to jdge things but realizing that what happens, happens as it is supposed to according to the creator of everything. When I was in Texas thinking and talking about moving I had ideas about what I would like to find but at the time just didn't think it was possible, having watched "Last of the Dpogmen" seeing the beautiful scenery and wanting to find that type of simple life would have been happy setting up camp somewhere in the mountains, always kepot my eyes opened for an opportunity but never imagined how good it would get. It is everything I wanted and so much more, not only is it a house or cabin but it is a whole town, not as thriving as it was back in the earlyt 20's when it was a copper mine and 400 people lived and worked here, but I like it like it is now with friends occssionally coming to visit and then all the hikers that like to use many of the various trails that are around here. You've aleady met Kaia and Nashaba but there is also Gizmo, he's the resident instigator and mouser but he'd rather play than kill. I can not see living anywhere else, for any reason, and even though it's not so convenient, I love it. having the Glacier National Wilderness as my backyard is fantastic. Most pople work many hours so that they can come here once in a while but leaving their common sense at home, and I get to live here all the time, what a blessing. Surrounded by this beauty there is no question that something made all of this for us to enjoy and that is what I plan to do not miss anything take the time to smell the flowers, enjoy the sights and sounds of Nature at it's fnest. The nights are getting cooler and crisper, the stars are brighter, and the full moon is lighting up the night sky, now who could ask for more. Life is Great, now to have someone to share it with would make it doubly good and willl happen when it's time. This is paradise to me.

Got The Powerplant back up

Well the plant was shut down yesterday for a while so that the commutator could be turned which is no easy task, but it had been making noise for some time now and with it not being turned properly the bushes didn' seat properly and the electricity would flucuate and have to be adjusted regularly. This hydro electric plant is one of the oldest in the naton still in operation. and in fact we are having to go through the liscensing just like all other powerplants in the US, but it isn't the easiest things to accomplish, there are alot of different agencies that want to have a say so but none of them know what the other one id doing it seems, and they can't seem to agree on anything. We have to reroute the tailrace which is where the water goes after it goes through the pelton wheel, it has been going the same way for over 80 years, now they want it reouted which is going to effect the wildlife that depend on the pond that is already there and then it has some cut throat trout that we have put into it from the creek.. There are many different agencies that all have different ideas about what should be done but they are all different, I have been looking at grants to reestablish the wetlands area along with reintroducing other big game like elk, mountain goats, big horned sheep, white tailed deer, black tailed deer, all of these should be here but aren't. Just alot of mule deer which is nice but they need to be managed better, there are too many doe for the number of bucks. For over a year I've been hopng to hear or see Elk but so far nothing, which to me is sad since this is the prime habitat for them to live, yet the people and agencies that are supposed to be in the know don't seem to know much other thatn that they don't want big game north of HWY 2 which doesn't make much sence, but I've been told that the orchardist don't wnt them there, now that is where I have a problem there are no orchards for 50 miles in any direction from here, this is the most remote part of the state and the area where these anmals should flourish they don't even exists, what's wrong with this picture. I've tried to get answers to these questions and the people in charge don't have answers either but are afraid to find answers, got to protect that job but forget the animals, boy have they got things messed up. now if we could get the powerplant to just coopperate which it seems to do most of the time. Even to be as old as it is it works very effectively requires little maintanence, and just keeps plugging along as long as the water levels stay good. Everything here is inner-connected, it can't be seperated out because everything is tied together, but the government just can't get that instead they try to make each thing independent and that just doesn't work like that. When I moved here from Texas I thought that I would for sure see these different animals in thir native habitat, but I heard and saw more elk there than I have since I've been here and that is sad but I hope to see that changed, I'm going to do my part but since I have to deal with the government and the multiple agencies that seem to duplicate much of what they do yet when it counts they don't seem to do much other than try to protect their jobs but not the anmals they are in charge of taking care of, almost sounds like the governments handling of the disaster in the south, too many chiefs and not enough actually dong anything worthwhile, could this really be the way it is for everything they have been put in charge of? Well the plant is back up and runing smoothly and so much quieter in the one place that noise doesn't matter much no one close enough to be bothered but maybe they should be when it comes to the wildlife that just doesn't exist anymore. I hope to change that what about you.

Nashaba being himself
Posted by Picasa

Nashaba Gets His time too.

Nashaba is an 8.5 yr old big old boy, Artic/Tundra & Malamute, he came to Trinity from Bend, OR. He came here after his human had received threats against him, she didn't want anything to happen to him and since he didn't have a fenced yard had to stay chained up with not much freedom. Since he came here in June he has adapted very well to being here this is home to him, he has several places he likes to posts up depending on what is going on everywhere. He is always ready to go for a walk and we have to take several walks daily, but if I don't go then the 2 of them might take off for Red Mountain or Spider Meadow where they have been seen but if you come across him he will be watching you from the trees. He's curious and likes the attention from me or a few others that are part of the pack, for the longest time he wouldn't come nside even though it was ok , but finally he comes in to check things out or to look for Kaia if she has been gone. He is very laid back but really seems to be enjoying the cooler air at night and in the early mornings and his step is quicker now than it has been. He loves to check out the horse camp and most of the deer trails around here daily to see if anything new is around.

Kaia is a Traveller

Kaia came to live at Trinity in May she is a rescue from...well I'd rather not say, but she had been kept in a pen since she was a pup and not taken very good care of. She is a very loving and very talkative, her biggest problem is that she never meets a stranger, she likes everyone and has taken several journeys with hiker's on the PCT some travelling North towards Canada and I had to go pick her up in Stehekin, for her it was only a 45 mile trip but for me it was a 100 mile drive to Chelan then a 50 mile boat ride to the far north end of the Lake Chelan. It was very beautiful but I would have rather been going for a couple of days and checking things out not just on a rescue mission.
She has made several friend s on the trail and this week since the high hunt began on the 15th she was gon for 5 days until Wed just before the hunt offically opened. Some of the hunter's that already came back with their deer asked if I was missing a wolf because they had seen her earlier up on trail, when I told him No he explained she had a tag with Trinity on it and I said you mean this one, and he said he had given her jerky up on trail . She has a wunderlust and since I can't go to some of these places physically sh finds someone else to go with but she always comes Home... and Nashaba always is happy to see her return. More later about Kaia's adventures.
