The Creek and River are really up and dirty
Since Sunday we'[ve been watching and walking along Phelps Creek and the Chiwawa River, taking many pictures of the snow that is left and the water as it has really picked up, lots of whitewater now, places thaqt were covered in snow just Sunday are now covered with water. Phelps Creek is flowing about 7 times faster than it was on Sun morning, and the Chiwawa has almost doubled it's flow in the same time frame, so the snow is definitely melting at the higher elevations and all the creeks that have been dry sine last July are now flowing again. Water from Phelps Creek is now flowing into the Chiwawa above the log jam that changed it's direction earlier, but it is still also covering much of the sandbars and land that was visible last year, constantly changing are the wild rivers.
Well it's melting
This is what the road looks like just before the parking lot for the Trinity TH, on one side of the water is about 8" the other side is still about 4+' could make it interesting tryint to go anywhere anytime soon. Fortunantly there is still enough snow to get out over the snow if it gets cold enough.

First of many herds of deer coming back to Trinity
Well yesterday I saw sign of deer back in the area yesterday and put out the feeder block and it looks like I did it just in time for their return, almost like clockwork except the deep snow slowed them down by 10 days from last year but like last year not long after the hummers return the deer aren't far behind.
What a pleasant suprise to look out and see them feeding even though they left right after these were taken they 'll be back, check for the on the webcam page.

Maybe we can learn something by watching Hummers
This morning I've been sitting and watching the hummingbirds as they come into the feeders and there are many differing approaches I've noticed. There are some that come in looking for a fight and are in what I call the defensive position cming in on the alert, while others come in and without attitude can come to the feeder and share without incident, I've seen 4 at a feeder designed for 6, then there are those that come in to harass those that are feeding, and it is the response to those that suprises me the most, those in peace without attitude seem to eat alot more that the others, and as long as they stand their ground without reacting to the attitude they just sit and eat til they are full. It's those hummers that I have come to love & respect because they remind me of the people that have made a difference through peace like Ghandi & Martin Luther King. I have to admit I don't watch news and quit listening to radio even because of the news they report as worthy, war and war mongers, haters and killers just don't do it for me, there is a war going on that isn't a war and yet it still get lots of coverage, but is it really helping mankind, I think not. There are things we can change and things we can't and when we realize that we can have peace and it starts with us. I guess that is what makes this paradise to me is seeing the beauty and peace around me here uneffected by anything else going on in the world, I chose to carry that wherever I go. There is a lesson to be learned from everything if we will just take the time to see and enjoy it, one thing is for sure peace has to start with me and each of us because no one can do it for us, it's a choice. I guess being a modern day mountainman that doesn't have to rough it really has some great benefits it gives me time to learn more and more what are important in life and that is peace and love and beauty. Life is such a wonderful experience and to be enjoyed not a burden that comes when we try to be like everyone else. Paradise is a wonderful place to live and I hope you find yours, wherever it may be. Namaste'

The first deer have arrived @ Trinity!
Today I saw the first signs of deer returning to Trinity, there were 3 sets of tracks out where we usually have a salt block for them, so of course I immediately went and got a fresh block and put it out, the birds were also very happy it's pout there. This is a good sign, last year by this time there were around 100 deer/day coming into the blocks and the number just continued to grow. They start running once the cross the bridge and clear the gate, then it is a full out sprint to get to the blocks, doe returning with the yearlings. Reid and Bruce saw signs that the moose was still in the area, hopefully I'll get some better pictures this year and will be able to find out if it is a bull or cow, either way I'm glad it made it through the winter. There are still a few snow bridges that are hanging on in the shaded areas but where it's exposed to the sun it's very soft and slushy and each day I see new patches of ground poking it's head out from under the snow, more different kinds of birds showing up and even a few barn swallows have shown up and are after the bugs for which I'm grateful. Water is flowing everywhere from the meltout even though the snow is deep on top it is melting underneath very fast. Even just now my daffodils are sending up the new growth and soon there will be color other than white showing up at Trinity. I love paradise it's so peaceful and yet very exciting with all the activity of the animals and birds, I found mine hope you can find yours.
Ever seen pink snow?
This is commonly referred to as "watermelon snow" but in fact it is a green algae according to scientist Ron Hoham a professor at Colgate in upstate NY. In what I could find online about it it's been around since Aristotle. It's said to live above the treeline in alpine meadows around 10-12,000', especially in the Sierra Nevada's in summer, but this was taken in my front yard at Trinity at 2800', so I guess they don't know everything. Trinity definitely has it's own macro climate unlike many other places close by, mainly in part I believe because of the valley we are in that has the PCT to the north and mountains on 3 sides. You've heard not to eat yellow snow but this could be worse instead of just a bad taste it can give you the ________ you can fill in the blank but it isn't much fun.
